In the evening, when your lights are on, the balance reverses: the bright side is now indoors, and that same sheer will show your silhouette to the whole block. Start with the geometry, because it costs nothing to get right. Fix the rail ten to fifteen centimetres above the window and let it run fifteen to twenty centimetres past each side. In an open plan that just looks better; in a Sharjah flat it does something more useful, because the light that gives you away at night escapes down the sides of a curtain that stops at the frame. Half of Sharjah buys fabric in Rolla or on Al Arouba Street and has it stitched to measure, which is still the best value in the country \u2014 and then discovers that the tailor stitches, but does not fit. The curtain comes home with pinch pleats and a bag of hooks and no rail on the wall. That is a normal booking for us. We supply and mount the rod or track, and because the drop depends on where the hook sits in the pleat tape, we set the hook depth so the hem lands exactly where you want it rather than sweeping the floor or hovering above it.
