Ajman Towers, Ajman Villas, and Two Very Different Problems<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ajman splits fairly neatly into two kinds of wall, and they fail in opposite ways. Working out which one is behind your paint is most of the job \u2014 the drilling is the easy part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Towers: Gypsum on a Steel Frame<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Emirates City, Ajman One, Ajman Uptown and the Corniche blocks are largely gypsum board fixed to steel studs. A screw driven straight into the board will carry a light frame for a few weeks and then let go without warning, taking a fist-sized piece of plaster with it. Anything with real weight goes into the stud behind, or onto a toggle rated for the load. We find the stud rather than assume there is one where we need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Older Blocks and Villas: Solid Concrete<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Al Nuaimiya, Al Rashidiya, Al Rumailah and Al Jurf are mostly solid block and poured concrete. These walls will hold very nearly anything \u2014 but only with a hammer drill and the correct sleeve anchor, and only after a scan, because the lighting conduit has a habit of running exactly where you wanted your screw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bathrooms, Tile and Marble<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tile does not forgive a rushed start. We begin with a diamond bit at low speed and the hammer action switched off, and bathroom mirrors get moisture-rated fixings. Where the tile is worth protecting, a cleat and a rated adhesive will often carry a mirror without drilling into it at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Landlord Says No Holes? There Are Options.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Plenty of Ajman tenancies are strict about drilling, and there is more you can do than most people realise. Picture rails, cleat systems and rated adhesive hangers will carry a surprising amount of weight with little or no damage, and they come away cleanly at the end.
