A Surprising Number of Our Call-Outs Are Repair Jobs
Plenty of the picture hanging work we do in Abu Dhabi is not hanging at all — it is repairing. A mirror that took a fist-sized piece of gypsum with it on the way down. A frame that sat two centimetres low and had to be moved, leaving a hole nobody in the room can stop looking at. A drill bit that found a chilled-water pipe on the second attempt. None of it is dramatic. All of it costs more than the hanging would have.
We have been putting things on UAE walls since 2012. The cable and pipe detector comes out before the drill does, the laser goes up before the first pencil mark, and the anchor is matched to the wall rather than to whatever came taped to the back of the frame. That is the entire trick. It is also why, on our jobs, the first hole is almost always the last one.

Abu Dhabi Walls: Island Towers, Mainland Villas and Everything Between
Abu Dhabi is not one building type. It is glass towers on reclaimed islands, block-built villas out on the mainland, and marble-lined lobbies somewhere in the middle. Each one wants a different fixing, and that is exactly where a confident guess turns into an expensive hole.
Island Towers: Gypsum and Steel Studs
Apartments on Al Reem, Al Maryah, Saadiyat, Yas and Al Raha Beach are mostly gypsum board fixed to a steel frame. A plain plug will carry a light frame for a season, then quietly let go and take a fist-sized piece of board with it. Anything heavier than a kilo or two needs a toggle — or better, a screw driven straight into the stud behind. We locate the stud rather than hope there is one where we need it.
Mainland Villas: Solid Block and Concrete
Khalifa City, Al Reef, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Shamkha and Mussafah are largely solid block and poured concrete. These want a hammer drill and a proper sleeve or wedge anchor — and a scan before anything spins, because block hides electrical conduit and you tend to find it the expensive way.
Marble, Porcelain and Coastal Bathrooms
Feature walls, lobbies and bathrooms. Tile splits the moment you rush it, so we start with a diamond bit at low speed and the hammer action switched off. Close to the Corniche and out on the islands the humidity is unforgiving, so bathroom mirrors get moisture-rated fixings — and on plenty of jobs we skip drilling the tile altogether with a cleat and a rated adhesive system.

A single piece is AED 150–200, two pieces AED 200–300, three pieces AED 250–400 and four pieces AED 300–500. Fixings, anchors and levelling are included in every one of those figures. Gallery walls of five pieces or more, oversized mirrors and commercial installations are quoted from a photo before we book.
Do you cover the islands as well as the mainland?
Yes. Al Reem, Al Maryah, Saadiyat, Yas and Al Raha Beach are routine for us, and so are Khalifa City, Al Reef, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Shamkha and Mussafah. There is no island surcharge and no separate call-out fee for the mainland.
Can you hang a heavy mirror on a gypsum wall?
Yes, but not with the plug that came taped to the back of it. On gypsum we either drive into the steel stud behind the board or spread the load across a French cleat and several rated anchors. We weigh the mirror first and choose the fixing to suit it. If it genuinely cannot be hung safely where you want it, we will say so rather than take the money and hope.
Do you bring your own fixings, or should I buy them?
We bring them. Hooks, wire, D-rings, plugs, toggles, cleats and anchors are all part of the price. If a piece needs something specialist, such as a locking security fixing or a full rail system, we tell you the cost up front rather than adding it to the invoice.
How do you avoid drilling into a pipe or a cable?
Every drilling point is scanned with a cable and pipe detector before the bit touches the wall. If the detector flags something we move the fixing or rework the layout. It costs us about two minutes and it saves you a plumber and an electrician.
Can you hang mirrors in a bathroom?
Yes, and it is worth having done properly. Abu Dhabi bathrooms are humid and usually fully tiled, so we use moisture-rated fixings and a diamond bit run slowly with the hammer action off. On many jobs we avoid drilling the tile at all by using a cleat and a rated adhesive system instead.
